Hepatorenal Syndrome is a medical condition in which the patients suffer from Kidney Failure with Advanced Chronic Liver Disease. However, not everyone who had kidney disorder and liver disease was diagnosed with the disease. There exists Hepatorenal Syndrome Criteria.
If you are diagnosed with Hepatorenal Syndrome, you need meet the following criteria.
- Proteinuria lower than 500mg/day and no ultrasonographic evidence of obstructive uropathy or parenchymal renal disease.
- Absence of shock, fluid losses, constant bacterial infection and current treatment with nephrotoxic drugs.
- Low GFR (creatinine level >1.5mg/dl)
- Constant low kidney function following diuretic withdrawal and expansion of plasma volume with 1.5L of a plasma expander
- Serum sodium concentration < 130mEq/L
- Urine sodium <10mEq/L
- Urine volume <500ml/day
- Urine red blood cells <50/high-power field
- Urine osmolality > plasma osmolality
The necessary criteria are the basic for diagnosis of hepatorenal syndrome. And the additional criteria are not the must for your doctor to make a diagnosis. However, they offers supportive evidence for your doctor.
