Foods to Avoid with Membranous NephropathyMembranous nephropathy is an autoimmune disorder with inflammation of filters in kidneys,which diminishes their ability to filter blood.As the kidneys becomes unable to filter waste products from body adequately, it can result in a number of symptoms.Diet is an important part of treatment.The patients with membranous nephropathy should avoid certain foods which can produce high levels of waste products.

Salty foods

A diet low in salt content should be followed if swelling occurs in membranous nephropathy.The patients are recommended to consume no more than 1500mg of sodium a day.It is a wise choice for them to avoid processed foods and choose fresh foods.What salty foods to avoid? Foods loaded in protein

Protein consumption should be limited if the patients have proteinuria. Proteinuria is a significant accelerator of renal function deterioration and even can lead to Kidney Failure. However, if the patients have no adequate protein consumption,the patients are suspectable to malnutrition.A moderate protein intake of about one gram of protein per kilogram of body weight a day is recommended to patients with Membranous Nephropathy. But the amount of protein intake varies in different stages.

Kidney Disease Stages 1 to 2(eGFR of 60 to 90+)-0.8 to 1.2 gram per kilo of body weight

Kidney Disease Stages 3 to 4 (eGFR of 20 to 60) – 0.6 to 0.8 gram per kilo of body weight

Kidney Disease Stages 4 to 5 (eGFR of 5 to 20) – Ideal 20 grams, Max 30 grams total
