Chronic membranous nephropathy refers to chronic kidney inflammation. Some common causes for the condition mainly include diabetes, lupus and high blood pressure. Your nutrition and diet plays a very important role in managing the inducing factors of chronic membranous nephropathy and the kidney disease itself.

If your kidney problem is caused by high blood pressure, you should limit salt intake to reduce retention of fluids and sodium. Eat more fresh, unprocessed foods as opposed to packaged and prepared foods, which are loaded with salt. Limit intake to 2,400 mg or less daily.

Diets that can reduce inflammation are beneficial to patients with chronic membranous nephropathy due to lupus. Therefore, you should increase the intake of foods rich in omega-3 acids which can suppress inflammation like cold-water fish, flaxseed and walnuts. Meanwhile, you should avoid foods which can triggering inflammation such as white flour foods sugar, sunflower and corn. In addition, foods rich in antioxidant also does good to people with the condition.

If you are a chronic membranous nephropathy due to diabetes, you should reduce carbohydrate intake to keep your blood sugar within control.

As for managing chronic membranous nephropathy itself, the following die plan can help.

1. Restricting protein intake is helpful. After proteins are metabolized, they can produce high amount of urea which can put burden on kidneys. Restricting protein intake can delay the disease progression.

2. Cut back on potassium to reduce waste buildup in the blood. High potassium level in blood can cause irregular heart beat and even heart failure. Foods high in potassium mainly include banana, dates, melon, fish, tuna, turkey, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, beans and celery.

3. Reduce fluids intake to reduce swelling and building up of fluids in your body. Your doctor can advice how much fluids should you take based on your condition.

The above is the major diet principles for people with chronic membranous nephropathy. You should consult your doctor or dietitian before staring any diet program.
