Provided by Expert Zhang Youkang on 2012-09-26 11:50

Membranous Nephropathy,PregnancyKidney Disease experts are always asked to suggest the women membranous Glomerulonephritis about the pregnancy. This topic (membranous Glomerulonephritis and pregnancy) involves two questions: how does the pregnancy influence the kidney problems? How does the kidney disease impact the gestational outcome?

How does the pregnancy influence the kidney problems?

Pregnancy results in important alterations in acid-base, electrolyte, and renal function due to pregnancy-associated physiologic changes in renal and systemic hemodynamics that occur.

And pregnancy surely lays a burden for the impaired kidneys which may cause acute kidney failure. Pregnancy is featured by marked changes in kidney function. Before you plan to have a baby, you need to keep your kidney function improved and stable.

How does the kidney disease impact the gestational outcome?

In order to find the answer, a research is performed which involved 33 pregnancies in 24 patients with biopsy proven membranous Glomerulonephritis. And the result showed that 24% of pregnancies resulted in fetal loss, 43% in premature delivery and 33% in a live birth after 36 weeks gestation.

Maternal renal function declined during pregnancy in 9% of the pregnancies and in 46%hypertension developed. In 55% proteinuria increased significantly during pregnancy.

In 30% nephrotic range proteinuria was recorded in the first trimester. Presence of nephrotic range proteinuria during the first trimester correlated with both poor fetal and poor maternal outcome.

It is concluded that pregnancy in patients with membranous glomerulonephritis is associated with increased fetal loss and, in some instances, a worsening in maternal renal function.

Membranous Nephropathy doesn’t kill the right to be a mother. However, you are suggested to plan to be pregnancy on the condition of enough and stable kidney function.
