Renal Amyloidosis Prognosis and Prevention

Provided by Expert Zhang Youkang on 2012-09-14 17:37

Renal Amyloidosis is a rare kidney disorder that is caused by the deposition of amyloid protein in the kidney tissues. Inflammation will occur and may develop into Nephrotic Syndrome which may progress to Renal Failure and even Uremia in a short time. Thereby, to some extent, the disease threatens people's lives.

The prognosis of Renal Amyloidosis is poor and is worse than all of other types of glomerulopathy except rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis.

·The long-term outcome of this disease is associated with the severity of the glomerular amyloidosis. It is generally worse in Grades III to V than in grades I and II.

·The outcome significantly worse in condition that the renal cortical interstitium exhibits fibrosis at the time of biopsy than those in which it is normal. The incidence of interstitial fibrosis increases with the severity of glomerular changes.

·If Acute Renal Failure or interstitial fibrosis is present at the time of the biopsy, the long-term prognosis is bad. Patients with both of these conditions have the worst prognosis.

·Make an early diagnosis and treatment can help to prevent further kidney damage and ensure good curative effects.

·Treat primary diseases that cause secondary amyloidosis actively. Take measures to prevent and treat chronic infections such as tuberculosis. When the inflammatory nidus is eliminated, clinical manifestations like proteinuria will be relieved, the progression of disease can be stopped, and the deposited amyloid can be absorbed. Hence, it is very important to detect chronic infections among amyloidosis patients not accompanied with myeloma.
